Remembering Karl Heinzen

There are a few times in life when you have a chance to know the best of people.  For many of the members of Troop 22, that opportunity was given to us by Karl Heinzen during the years he was a Scout, the years he was a leader, and beyond into the personal friendships that he formed with us.

Karl was not just another Eagle Scout; his energy and love of the program made him a driving force both inside the Troop and out.  He was a great Scout, and an even greater person.  He simply was one of the best people you could ever know.  Even when he could not be a regular at our meetings, he always kept in contact with us.

It came as a tremendous blow to all of us on October 8, 2006 when we lost Karl in a tragic accident while fishing at Breezy Point.  We will miss him sorely.

If you want to make contributions in Karl's memory, his family requests that you make them to the following organization:

The Brooklyn Greenway Initiative
95 Kane Street
Brooklyn, NY 11231

Please join us in keeping Karl and his family in your thoughts and prayers.

Karl was a great guy, a good friend and an extraordinary scout. Please keep him and his family in your thoughts and prayers.

Karl had such a big impact on me growing up.  In the troop, he was kind of what I aspired to be.  Whenever I think of what a Senior Patrol Leader should be like, I always thought of Karl.  He was such a special person.
